Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Bishop Kelvin Ransey is the fifth of seven children born to Deacon Clinton and Annie Ransey. He has been married to the lovely Deborah Ransey for over twenty years, and they have two children, Kierra and Kelvin II. Adolescent Kelvin enjoyed playing basketball; he was a three-year starter for his high school team where he earned first Team All-City Honors his junior and senior years. He was also 1st Team All-State his senior year. The young Ransey received numerous offers to play college basketball. He ultimately decided to attend Ohio State University on full scholarship. While playing at Ohio State, Ransey broke many records and became the second All-Time leading scorer in OSU history. Bishop Ransey rests in the OSU Hall of Fame.
After college, Bishop Ransey was the fourth person selected in the 1980 NBA draft. He played six years in the NBA: two years for the Portland Trailblazers, one year with the Dallas Mavericks, and three years with the New Jersey Nets. In 1980, he lacked one vote from being named rookie of the year. After six years of playing in the NBA, in September of 1985, God called him to preach the Gospel. Bishop Ransey heeded the call, left the NBA at the age of 27 and committed to the ministry full time.
Bishop Ransey served twelve years as the assistant pastor of the Upper Room Tabernacle where his older brother, Elder Danny Ransey, Sr. is the pastor. During that time, he also served as the national evangelist of the Church of the Living God. In 2001, Bishop Ransey once again regarded the voice of God and went to Mississippi to pastor where he founded the Spirit of Excellence Church with a humble nine members. God richly and quickly blessed Bishop Ransey and the Spirit of Excellence church family. After five years, they built a 9,000 square feet building, seating 400. The ministry is thriving and currently has approximately 250 members. In addition to his pastoral office, Bishop Ransey resides as the prelate bishop of United in Christ ministries.
Added to his list of accomplishments are that of songwriter, he is currently working on his second CD release; and author, he has published a book entitled Raising up Spiritual Threats. Bishop Ransey was ordained to the Bishopric in June 2010. He loves God, his family, and his church family and is committed to winning souls to the Kingdom and transforming these souls into spiritual threats.
